A power trip means your DB box has cut the power to protect you, usually because one appliance, point or circuit is faulty. SG Electrician finds which one and fixes it, often in a single visit, with same-day service across Singapore.
Power keeps tripping? We find the cause and fix it
A trip is a safety device doing its job. Resetting it again and again doesn’t fix anything. The fault is still there, and it can get worse. We trace the cause, repair it and test the circuit before we leave.
Common causes of power trips
- A faulty appliance. Water heaters, kettles, washing machines, ovens and aircon units are the usual suspects.
- Water seepage. Moisture in a bathroom, kitchen or outdoor point, often after heavy rain.
- An overloaded circuit. Too many high-power appliances running on one circuit, or on one point through adapters.
- Worn wiring or a faulty breaker. Older wiring, sockets and breakers wear out over time.
Which switch tripped?
Look at your DB box before you call. It helps us narrow down the fault.
- The main RCCB (or ELCB) tripped: this usually points to current leaking to earth, from water in a point or a faulty appliance.
- One small breaker (MCB) tripped: this usually points to an overload or a short on that one circuit, such as the kitchen or one room.
Not sure which is which? WhatsApp us a photo of your DB box and we’ll tell you.
What you can safely try first
Unplug appliances in the affected area and push the tripped switch back up once. If it holds, plug appliances back in one at a time. The one that trips it again is the culprit.
If it trips again straight away, or you smell burning, leave it off and call us.
How we fix it
We test each circuit to isolate the fault, repair or replace the faulty part, and retest before we leave. The price is agreed with you before any work starts, and the repair comes with our 90-day workmanship warranty.
Trips that happen during lightning or heavy rain should be checked soon. They often mean water is getting into the wiring somewhere.

Common questions
Why does my power trip when it rains?
Rain can get into outdoor points, window-side sockets or damaged wiring. That lets current leak to earth, so the RCCB trips to protect you. It should be checked, because the leak is still there when it dries out.
Is it safe to keep resetting the switch?
Once is fine. If it trips again straight away, leave it off. Repeated resetting can damage the breaker and doesn’t fix the fault.
Is it my appliance or my wiring?
Unplugging everything and plugging back in one at a time usually tells you. If it still trips with everything unplugged, the fault is likely in the wiring or a point, and that needs an electrician.
Can you fix it the same day?
In most cases, yes. We offer same-day service, and many power trips are traced and fixed in one visit.
