Dead, loose or scorched power point? Get it fixed properly
A socket that’s dead, loose, scorched or tripping the power needs a proper check. Plugging more adapters into a weak point only makes it worse.
Why power points fail
- Overload. Too many plugs on one point through adapters or power strips.
- Wear and tear. Contacts loosen and corrode over the years.
- Water seepage. Common for kitchen, bathroom and outdoor points.
- A faulty appliance. A damaged plug or cable can burn the socket it’s plugged into.
Warning signs
- Scorch marks or a burning smell
- A faceplate that feels hot
- Plugs that fall out
- Sparks when plugging in
- The power trips when the socket is used
If you see scorch marks or smell burning, stop using the socket and switch it off at the DB box.
Repair or replace?
A scorched or cracked socket is replaced, not patched. If the damage has reached the wiring behind it, we repair that section too. A socket that keeps failing in the same spot usually means the circuit is overloaded, and we’ll tell you how to spread the load or whether a new point makes sense.
What we do
We isolate the circuit, find the cause, replace the socket or repair the wiring, and test it before we leave. The price is agreed with you first.
What affects the price
It depends on whether it’s a straight socket replacement or the wiring behind it is damaged, the type of socket, and how many points need attention. A photo of the socket helps us give you a price before we come.

Common questions
Can I keep using a socket with scorch marks?
No. Scorch marks mean the socket has overheated. Stop using it, switch it off at the DB box and get it replaced.
Why does the same socket keep failing?
Usually the point is overloaded, often from adapters and power strips, or the wiring behind it is damaged. We check both and tell you what’s causing it.
Do you repair switches as well?
Yes. Loose, warm or sparking switches are checked and replaced the same way as sockets.
Is the repair covered?
Yes. Every completed job comes with a receipt and a 90-day workmanship warranty.
